T-Ball, Farm, and Rookies baseball and softball teams it's all about fun, learning, and building friendships. Teams in these non-competitive divisions will be formed based on school and coach requests whenever possible.
For baseball and softball players in Minors, Majors, and Juniors (league age 9+), we use a player draft supported by skill assessments to create balanced teams. Assessments are required for these levels.
This draft format is built with one goal in mind: what’s best for the kids. By spreading talent across every team, we create fair matchups, stronger coaching opportunities, and a season where every player can grow, contribute, and feel proud of their team.
Coaches draft throughout the process with an emphasis on balance, so each roster includes a healthy mix of experience and developing players. We also actively monitor team needs as the draft unfolds to prevent gaps or overloads in key positions and skill sets. The result is an even playing field, better games, and a more positive, confidence-building experience for every kid in the league.
What to Expect at Assessments
Players do not need to stress over the skills assessment. There will be NO cuts. All players will make a team.
Assessments are used to evaluate players so we can create fair and balanced teams in our competitive divisions.
Players will be assessed on base running, fielding, throwing, catching, and batting earning a score of 1 through 5. Other attributes assessed will be attitude, focus, and hustle.
If you are interested in playing in a division other than the one you are eligible for, please attend the assessment of the division you want to play in. A safety assessment will be conducted before you are approved to transfer divisions.
Please wear tennis shoes as cleats are not allowed in the field house. Bring your glove. Other equipment will be provided.
When you arrive, check-in at the registration table to get your number and then start warming up your arm with a buddy.
If you are coaching, check-in at the registration table to receive your assessment clip board. Please bring your own pen.
Parents are welcome to stay and watch but are asked to remain outside the nets and let the coaches direct the assessment.
If you are unsure of your league age, please use the league age calculator found here: https://www.littleleague.org/play-little-league/determine-league-age/.
If your player is unable to attend assessments, please email [email protected]. Note, players that do not attend assessments cannot be drafted and will be assigned to teams by random drawing after all other players have been drafted.
Player Selection Draft Details
For the player selection/draft, Bend South Little League’s process is as follows:
The Player Agent is responsible for organizing and overseeing the player draft.
All players are selected using a draft process. The Manager's child(ren) will be drafted as their first-round pick. If the manager has declared a coach with a child(ren), that player will be drafted as their 2nd round pick. The declared coach’s child(ren) will be drafted in order.
Siblings will be drafted to the same team unless otherwise requested by the parents/legal guardians. Once one sibling is drafted the other sibling will be drafted in the next round.
Managers are the only team representative eligible to be present during the draft. If a manager cannot represent their team at the draft, their coach may represent the team in their place. This must be approved by the Player Agent.
Draft pick order will be determined by numbers chosen through a randomized drawing.
The draft will be conducted through a Snake Draft process. The draft order will be determined by managers drawing numbers from 1 through 6. The manager with number 1 will select first, followed sequentially by managers 2 through 6. The order will then reverse for the second selection, with manager 6 selecting first, followed by managers 5 through 1.
Players that do not attend assessments cannot be drafted and will be assigned to teams by random drawing after all other players have been drafted.
A member of the Board who does not have a child in this division's draft will be present during the draft to assist with quality control.
All trades must be completed by the end of the draft day.
All teams will be deemed final by the end of the draft day. Special situations can be submitted to the Player Agent for approval.
